RetentionFunnel Privacy Policy

RetentionFunnel (“RetentionFunnel,” “we,” “us”) is a Shopify app that gives merchants attribution, funnel, and retention reporting for their storefront. This page explains what data RetentionFunnel collects, why, and how a merchant or their customers can have it removed.

What RetentionFunnel collects

Through the RetentionFunnel web pixel, installed on the merchant’s storefront, we collect:

• An anonymous, randomly generated browser identifier (“clientId”) used to recognize repeat visits on the same device/browser. This identifier is not derived from and cannot be reversed into a name, email address, or other directly identifying information.
• First-touch acquisition data for that identifier: UTM parameters, referrer domain, and landing page, used to classify the visit into a channel (organic search, paid social, email, influencer, direct, or referral).
• Storefront lifecycle events tied to that identifier — page views, product views, add-to-cart, checkout started, checkout completed — the page URL involved in each, and the product(s) involved. This lets a merchant see, for example, that a specific page tends to precede drop-off.
• A coarse device type (desktop, Android, or iOS), determined from the browser’s User-Agent string sent with each request — not from any device fingerprinting technique.
• A country, state/province, and city, resolved from the visitor’s IP address at the moment each request is received using a local, offline geo-IP lookup. The IP address itself is used only for that one lookup and is never stored — only the resulting country, state/province, and city are saved against the anonymous identifier above. This is an approximate location derived from network routing data, not a precise or device-reported location (e.g. GPS), and is commonly accurate at the country level but less reliable at the state or city level.

Through the Shopify Admin API (only for shops that have installed RetentionFunnel), we receive:

• Order data needed to calculate attributed GMV and RetentionFunnel’s usage fee: order total, currency, and the Shopify order ID. We do not request or store the buyer’s name, email, shipping address, or payment details.
• Product titles, to label which product a segment or funnel is associated with.

What RetentionFunnel does not collect

RetentionFunnel never collects customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, shipping/billing addresses, or payment information. All RetentionFunnel data is scoped to the pseudonymous browser identifier described above, not to a named individual. RetentionFunnel does not retain IP addresses, and does not determine or store precise, device-reported location (e.g. GPS) — only the approximate country, state/province, and city resolved from IP address at the moment of each request, as described above.

How this data is used

Data is used exclusively to build the attribution, funnel, and retention reports shown to the merchant in the RetentionFunnel dashboard inside Shopify admin, and to calculate the usage-based fee described in RetentionFunnel’s pricing. We do not sell data to third parties, and we do not use it for advertising or share it with any party outside of what’s needed to operate the app (our hosting and database providers, acting strictly as data processors on our behalf).

Data retention and deletion

Data is retained for as long as the merchant has RetentionFunnel installed, so historical reporting stays accurate. When a merchant uninstalls RetentionFunnel, all data associated with their shop is permanently deleted within 48 hours, automatically, in response to Shopify’s shop/redact webhook. Merchants or their customers can also request earlier deletion or a copy of held data by contacting us at the address below; because RetentionFunnel does not store customer-identifying fields, most customer-level requests will confirm that no identifying data is held.
